Some partners fix problems. Others prevent
them.
If you've ever waited days for a call back or
heard "we'll look into it" one too many times, your IT partner might be
reactive, not proactive. And in long-term care, delay is a big risk.
"Proactive IT is like good nursing—quiet,
steady, and always one step ahead."
According to the AHCA's 2025
Technology Outlook, facilities with proactive IT partners reported 40% fewer
critical outages and 33% faster recovery times during incidents.
Here are five red flags that your IT partner is
more reactive than you deserve:
1. No routine check-ins. You only hear
from them when something breaks.
2. No reporting. You don't receive regular
health summaries or security updates.
3. No trend tracking. The same tech
issues keep popping up, month after month.
4. Poor communication. You wait too long
for answers—or get tech speak that confuses more than it helps.
5. No visibility. They've never walked
your floors, seen your systems in action, or talked with night shift.
Now, here's what proactive support looks like:
- They bring you solutions, not just fixes.
- They alert you before users notice a
problem.
- They educate your staff in plain English.
- They customize support to your workflows, not
someone else's model.
Simple ways to shift toward proactive care:
- Schedule a quarterly review to talk about
system health, tickets, and security.
- Ask your IT provider what problems they've
prevented this month.
- Invite them to observe how you staff uses
your systems and ask how they document what they learned to help better
support your team.
And most of all, trust your gut. If your team
doesn't feel safe speaking up about tech problems, or if they're used to "just
dealing with it", you're overdue for a at least a review - or maybe a change.
